PO Box 757200 Fairbanks, AK 99775-7200 USA
Fairbanks has a great many contaminated sites that residents are unaware of, so this aspect will be particularly important. We will also include links to explain what the chemicals are at each site and how hazardous they are. In addition, we will highlight the good things about the area: its parks and refuges, bird watching areas, outdoor recreation areas, gardens, etc.
The greater Fairbanks area has about 90,000 people. It is located just a few miles south of the Arctic Circle and about 400 miles north of Anchorage. It is quite isolated, but an excellent jumping off point to a great expanse of wilderness.
The UAF School of Natural Resources and Agricultural Sciences is sponsoring the work on the Fairbanks Green Map. Those interested in helping to create the map can sign up for college credit.
I am a professor at UAF and I am slowly compiling the Fairbanks Greenmap and UAF Greenmap with the help of many dedicated students.
