Salzburg has a long history in public awareness of green space issues, a community focusing on environmental concerns and an increasing dedication to sustainable development and livelihoods.

The emerging Salzburg Green Map project will address communities across the city and province of Salzburg, providing a platform for identity and community building, and foremost developing an educational resource for active and participative learning in schools and informal education.

A core group at Salzburg University’s Centre for Geoinformatics joins with researchers from other university departments and the Austrian Academy of Sciences to provide a focal point for a growing community of planners, environmentalists, social scientists and educators sharing the common vision of enabling active participation in local government aiming at sustainable communities.
