This map shows many ecological initiatives happening in Kings County. It can be used to help long time residents, people who are new to the area and tourists find amazing eco-focused programs and businesses within our county. This map will not only help people identify many environmentally friendly initiatives, but move towards a focus on supporting them and at the same time as helping to create a sense of community between these people working to take care of our environment. The idea began with a vision of a province-wide Emerald Web. Kings County was chosen as a pilot to demonstrate a portion of the vision. With the assistance of Saint Mary’s University, the Ecology Action Centre used Green Maps™ (www.greenmaps.org) to create this map. The data was collected during two community mapping workshops, with the help of Ecology Action Centre staff and through online research. The community mapping workshops included Kings County community members, representatives from a local municipality, local organizations, and institutions. With this map, we hope to show a diverse, rich community of environmental projects and businesses contributing to the sustainable economic development of our rural communities.
