The Department of Geography, Saint Mary’s University funded this initiative. A recent graduate student created the Saint Mary’s University Green Map and put it on display during Sustainability Week which was held from March 2 to March 6, 2009. The aim of this map is to provide students, members of the Saint Mary’s community, and visitors information and resources that will help them live a more sustainable lifestyle on campus.

This map was created with the use of an AutoCAD drawing developed by Facilities Management, Saint Mary’s University. The AutoCAD drawing was then imported into Adobe Illustrator in which layers were created, and changes and additions were made. A poster was initially created to unveil the Green Map during Sustainability Week (March 2 to March 6). To present the map in a user friendly form, a brochure was also created which will be available on-line.

A preliminary list of ‘green’ items to be included on the map was provided by the Sustainability Assistant in Facilities Management. Additions were made with speaking to various faculty, service representatives and students. Saint Mary’s is currently undergoing numerous changes (i.e. with the construction of the Atrium) and as a result this map with be updated as required.
