Declaración de Intención

Pune has come a long way from being known as a green city, and the educational capital of India, to a city almost synonymous with the Information Technology and real estate boom.

While sleek glass buildings are shooting up, the traditional 'Wadas' that have characterized Pune for centuries are disappearing.

Malls and retail giants line every big road, as they do in all big Indian cities, Pune is growing at an alarming rate and not necessarily in a planned way!

The city a number of unique resources that have contributed to its personality for decades and continue to do so even today… A Green Map would document these assets and become an excellent reference document for the local community, visitors, and practically anyone who wishes to get a taste of the real Pune and become part of its evolution!

The Pune Green Map was created to document the various assets of Pune city that constitute its natural and cultural heritage.

The map was updated twice in a variety of sizes. One of the versions covered only central Pune while the others covered the entire city limit.

Our Green Map was also printed on Silk so it could be used as a headscarf! This was an effort to experiment with the functionality of the Map and also make it more attractive for the community as well as visitors!

What inspires us most about Green Map is the potential for community participation. We are working on designing new methods of collecting thoughts about Pune from different layers of its community and translating them into the form and content of the map!

At a later stage in the project, we hope to use the Green Map for environmental and cultural interaction with kids.
