Joining the mobile revolution, Green Map System is pleased to share two new sustainable living resources for people on the move:
• a mobile website designed for all internet-enabled smart phones
• the Green Map iPhone App
UPDATE - new feature! Add a Site with either version, and collect data on the spot!
Ideal for locals and tourists alike, both feature the beta version of "What's Green Nearby?™" a handy tool for finding and exploring green resources on the go. Drawing from over 16,000 sites contributed to the interactive Open Green Map sustainability mapping platform by local Green Map teams, these mobile tools delights users as they are guided to farmers markets, green buildings, gardens and heritage sites that help everyone make greener, healthier, low-impact choices.
You can find sites nearby or in another city. You can also 'search by the icon', and quickly see a list of sites in that category, arranged with the nearest to you first. Click any site for a description. Tap its address to see it on your phone's built in map.
The Green Map iPhone App includes 10 additional sections, delivering an insightful view into the impacts of this global movement through its Green Maps, videos, photos, Twitter, blog and much more. You can replicate this on your own website or blog with our free widgets!
Both mobile tools are award winners! Treehugger Best of Green 2011 in Science and Technology: Best Eco App for a Smart Phone! Access is easy:
• Simply type GreenMap.org into any phone's internet browser for the mobile website.

Trends: More than 5,000 of the Green Map iPhone Apps were downloaded in the first 2 weeks. This was in Spring 2010, when there were just 10,000 sites on the Open Green Map to peruse in the App. We added a new feature - Find Sites by the Icon over the summer, and before the year ended, its Add a Site feature debuted. There are now over 16,000 sites to find nearby!

We are delighted to share this new way of exploring our 15 years of work connecting community and sustainability resources together. Our design team, including Té Baybute and Akiko Rokube utilized AppMakr.com to develop the iPhone app in less than a month, and members of our Board, Thomas Turnbull and Stan Wiechers, pitched in to create the mobile website. Special thanks to Gottfried Haider for his contributions to this project. With the help of sponsoring companies, foundations and individual donors, we'll be building richer versions and continually improving exploration and interaction, contributing much to community well-being and the future we all share.
So how about an Android app?
So how about an Android app? (Because not all us green-types like monopolies)
