The objective of our green map is to supply information of this city. The space in which we live is not only full streets of people, polluted air, but it can be a pleasant place. The beautiful open spaces where you can spend some time with the family.
Initially we thought about the green map when we realized that our great and beautiful city did not possed open spaces full equipped so that it would be possible to spend a pretty Sunday morning. The lack of a guide with direcctions of a vegetarian restaurant, gardens, fair trade shops or a field of football pushed us for this initiative.
Consequently we begin to formulate the project. It will not be a simple academic study though it has it´s exactness. We intend to give it a bigger dimension. The Green map will be discussed at schools, public entities and also to broadcated in tv's, radios as well as maganizes and newspapers. Braga, the city where the study will be applied, has a population of 175063 distributed for 183,51 Km2, it means the third place between the most developed cities in Portugal. It is said that Braga is the european city with larger number of young people amongst its population, that being so it gives an enormous potential to a project with the dimension of green map. As soon as we inform the results of the project of green map people will start to re-discover it´s city.It´s with great expetations that we think upon this initiative that it will modify, not only the way people see the enviroment but also will give them a cultural dimension.
Embracing this aim, Quercus is a national association of the conservation of the nature, which has local representations in many cities of the country. In Braga, it´s representation has a long activity (more than 10 years). The objectives of this association are to inform and to help people about the environment and it´s issues. It also organizes several activities with schools and public entities.
