About this Mapmaker

Founded in 2000, the Ecosurfi is an nonprofit NGO (Non Governmental Organization) created by surfers. The organization works the Environmental Education as a guiding principle for their actions.

The organization includes people from various areas and levels of knowledge, who are committed to the challenge of conservation, preservation and restoration of biodiversity on the Earth.

The Ecosurfi is a Brazilian organization declared independent of municipal public utility, committed to protecting the environment and the culture of peace, effectively inspiring society to change attitudes and behaviors in the pursuit of sustainability.

Our History

"Being men of sea surfers must collude the ceaseless quest for preservation of beaches, seas and oceans around our planet." This quote was the conceptual element that inspired the founders of Ecosurfi entered to start the Foundation's activities in the summer of 2000.

It all started with an attempt to reduce the aggression that the beaches had experienced on the Brazilian coast. Thus some surfers of city Itanhaém/SP, through joint efforts to clean the beaches and environmental awareness began to combat pollution in coastal ecosystems.

Even today this phrase is the ideal that the Ecosurfi transmits to entire community of surfing in the Brazilian coast.

How we work

The ecosurf run and organize events, projects and through support of public and private partnerships, universities, social networking information, and other civil society organizations and social movements with similar goals.

Our activities are developed through projects, education campaigns, exhibitions, lectures, courses, seminars, popular mobilization and action in public policies of environment, education, youth and water resources.

Statement of Purpose

Our goals with project River of the our neighborhood - Schools Caring of Water are promoting practices of Environmental Education (EE) focused on the environmental sanitation in schools and communities to municipalities of Hydrografic Basin of Santos Region, producing knowledge, proposals and one letter of responsibilities for management sustainable of the water resources, providing a database of practices and successful experiences and challenges, which serve as a reference for the educational systems of the region. To this end, the project includes:

• Register, systematize and disseminate the experiences of EE focused on environmental sanitation
• Encourage the inclusion of the theme of water resources in the pedagogical approach of schools in the Hydrografic Basin of Baixada Santista
• Strengthen the participation of schools in the implementation of the Basin Planning of CBH-BS, contributing to the sustainable management of water resources
• To promote the rooting of a critical and emancipatory EE

The proposal will involve, in a process of training and practice, two teachers and an academic advisor for 36 schools in nine cities of Santos Region. The region currently has 1.6 million inhabitants. Each school will develop, from the perspective of the watershed, a project of Green Map of community where schools are located. All of maps will be transformed in one. The milestones are:

1. Mobilization - is the achievement of the 5º Metropolitan Water Walk in Santos Region.
2. Training Seminars - three activities of conceptual consolidation in the themes: Environmental sanitation, participation and social control, Environmental Education and Participatory Methods, EduCommunication Environmental and Networks.
3. Workshops Monitoring and Development Project - will be 5 workshops of instrumentation methodology that will subsidize the teachers on track mapping, which are: a) History and support structures, b) environment and socioeconomics c) Base population and diversity d) Actors and conflicts, and) Arenas, forums and groups.
4. Meetings, trade and construction - with the Green Maps are ready, the schools will participate in the 1º Conference of Metropolitan Schools Water Caring of Santos Region, in which une the maps, exchange experiences and build a Charter of Responsibilities of Schools Caring of Waters of Santos Region.
5. Registration and systematization – in the end of the project will be edited a book with the experiences of each school during the development of Green Map projects, which will be distributed to all 718 public schools in the region.

As theoretical references for teacher training and development of Green Map projects, we are using:

The project River of the our neighborhood - Schools Caring of Water has performed through the Watershed Committee of Santos Region. So sign up as a process related to the management of water resources in the region to take the following actions of the Basin Plan (2008/2011):

• Train government agencies, organizations and users to participate in the Committee (action 24)
• Train and empower managers and multipliers of knowledge on water resources (action 26)
• Develop, publish and distribute teaching materials or information on water resources and related areas (action 27)
• Implement environmental education programs focusing on water resources (action 28)
• Conduct annualy Water Week

Constituída em 2000, a Ecosurfi é uma ONG (Organização Não Governamental) sem fins lucrativos idealizada e fundada por surfistas. A entidade trabalha a Educação Ambiental como princípio norteador para as suas ações.

A organização incorpora pessoas de diversas áreas de atuação e níveis de conhecimentos, que se comprometem com o desafio global da conservação, preservação e restauração da biodiversidade no planeta Terra.

A Ecosurfi é uma organização brasileira independente declarada de utilidade pública municipal, comprometida com a defesa do meio ambiente e a cultura de paz, inspirando de forma efetiva a sociedade a mudar de atitudes e comportamentos na busca da sustentabilidade.

Nossa História

“Sendo Homens do mar os surfistas devem compactuar na incessante busca da sustentabilidade das praias, mares e oceanos ao redor do nosso Planeta”.

Esta citação foi o elemento conceitual inspirador que os fundadores da Ecosurfi incorporaram para iniciar as atividades da entidade no verão do ano 2000.

Tudo começou com a tentativa de diminuir as agressões que as praias vinham sofrendo no litoral paulista. Com isso alguns surfistas da cidade de Itanhaém/SP, através de mutirões para a despoluição das praias e sensibilização ambiental começaram a combater a poluição nos ecossistemas costeiros.

Ainda hoje esta frase é o ideal que a Ecosurfi transmite a toda comunidade do surf pelo litoral brasileiro.

Como atuamos

A Ecosurfi executa e organiza eventos, projetos através do apoio e de parcerias publicas e privadas, universidades, redes sociais de informação, bem como outras organizações da sociedade civil e movimentos sociais com objetivos afins.

Nossas atividades são desenvolvidas por meio de projetos, campanhas educativas, exposições, palestras, cursos, seminários e mobilização popular.
